THE smell of steam filled the air at Tarrant Hinton once again as the Great Dorset Steam Fair got under way.

The annual event, which is expected to attract more than 200,000 visitors this year, runs until Monday. Now in its 51st year, the fair is among the largest of its kind in the world.

Various displays and demonstrations took place yesterday, while exhibitors showed off their prized steam engines.

Once again, the fair has dedicated areas with displays commemorating the First and Second World Wars.

In the stunt arena there are displays from the Big Pete and Grim Reaper Monster Truck Show, Bolddog Lings Freestyle Motocross Team and The Stannage International Stunt Team High Fall Show.

There is also live music to keep visitors entertained at the ever-popular event.
