A MAJOR programme of roadworks began in Wallisdown Road this week.

As reported, motorists who use the busy route – which is already prone to heavy traffic – have been bracing themselves for the works.

It is predicted that the scheme will take five months.

Officials from BCP Council say disruption to traffic will be "very limited" with temporary lights in place for "short periods and off-peak".

The project is phase one of the council's Wallisdown improvement works, which will eventually see new crossings, resurfacing and widened footpaths.

Improved bus laybys are also planned. It is hoped this will alleviate some of the troubles along the stretch.
