A DORSET MP has been made an aide to House of Commons leader Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Michael Tomlinson, member for Mid-Dorset and North Poole, announced he had been named as Mr Rees-Mogg’s parliamentary private secretary (PPS).

He said he was “delighted to have been appointed PPS to the leader of the House” and was “looking forward to our first meeting”.

Mr Tomlinson is a former vice-chairman of the Brexit-supporting European Research Group, which Mr Rees-Mogg chairs.

A PPS is an unpaid aide who acts as a minister’s contact with MPs.

Mr Tomlinson’s last stint as a PPS may have set a record for the shortest time in the role. In 2018, he was appointed PPS to Brexit secretary Dominic Raab, only to find himself out of the post when Mr Raab resigned from the government less than 48 hours later.
