BOURNEMOUTH'S Friday night fireworks have been cancelled for the second week running.

Last week's display had to be cancelled due to high winds and heavy rain.

Tonight's fireworks have also had to be called off for the same reasons.

A yellow weather warning for heavy rain and strong winds came into force at 8am this morning.

It will be in force until 10pm tonight.

A spokesperson for Bournemouth Tourism, which organises the weekly summer spectacle, said the display was due to take place again next Friday at 10pm.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Bournemouth Tourism said: "Due to the exceptional high winds this evening the decision by the contractor and the Council is that it would be unsafe for the Bournemouth Friday Fireworks display to happen tonight.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused, understandably, the public’s safety must be our top priority.

"The next scheduled display will go ahead next Friday evening, 23 August."

Further fireworks are planned for Friday and Saturday August 30 and 31 as part of the Bournemouth Air Festival's Night Air entertainment.
