IT WAS fun in the sun for youngsters as they frolicked in the sand without a care in the world.
The date was August 1, 1989, when Eastern Shore played host to part of the two-day activity programme of the Bournemouth Regatta and Carnival.
Fifty to 100 children competed for prizes including sweets and sticks of rock.
Rounders was a popular choice among the youngsters as they channelled all the energy into almighty swings before careering around cones as fast as their legs would carry them.
Some took to a temporary assault course which required plenty of running, crawling, and sometimes even falling into and across the sand.
A brief and impromptu football match proved to be a hit - until the ball taken away to be used for challenges and other games.
