A FIREWORK display that was due to take place in Swanage tonight has been cancelled for "safety reasons".

The display was scheduled for 9.45pm as part of Swanage Carnival Week which comes to a close today.

Two other fireworks displays went ahead this week as part of the event.

Other highlights included displays by the Fireflies Aerobatic Display Team and AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers.

Posting on social media this afternoon, organisers said: "Unfortunately our firework display is cancelled tonight for safety reasons due to wind direction.

"Please still come along for this evening’s music finale in the marquee with DJ Wilzie followed by @galaxythiefband and don't miss @titantherobot."

Swanage Carnival Week started on July 27 and saw thousands of people turn out for the annual procession last weekend.
