THE 12th Bournemouth Air Festival is just four weeks away and organisers have released more details on the air display line-up – including a dusk display from the RAF Typhoon.
Hundreds of thousands are expected to visit the town for the free four-day event from Thursday, August 29, to Sunday, September 1, with more new displays than ever.
As reported by the Daily Echo, the return of the RAF Typhoon will be joined by the Saab Draken from Sweden and the Canadair T-33 Silver Star from Norway.
The Red Arrows will not be at this year’s event as they are completing a landmark tour of North America.
Festival organisers have confirmed the Night Air dusk flying will include the Typhoon, as well as the Fireflies, Red Devils Parachute Team and Brendan O’Brien piloting Otto the Helicopter – a aircraft packed with fireworks to light up the sky as he performs a pyrotechnic masterclass.
During the day, as well as vintage aircraft, two parachute teams, aerobatics displays, wingwalkers, the Ultimate Warbird Flights will be showcasing their dog fighting skills in a collection of stunning aircraft, such as a Hispano Buchon, Mustang, Supermarine Spitfire and Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.
Regular favourites the Blades Aerobatic Display Team, Strikemaster, RAF Tucano, RAF Chinook, Royal Navy Wildcat, Tigers Parachute Display Team, the MiG15 and, after a starring role on debut, Rich Goodwin’s stomach-turning Pitts Muscle Plane will all be displaying during the four-day festival.
Last seen in 2016, the full Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) line-up, featuring the iconic Lancaster alongside Hurricane and Spitfire, will display on every day.
Away from the action in the air, Bournemouth and Boscombe’s will host country show trading sites, activation areas and military villages with a variety of tanks, vehicles and a host of ‘have a go equipment’.
As evening falls, along with beautiful dusk flying, Night Air entertainment will feature Royal Marines unarmed combat display and the HM Royal Marine Band Portsmouth performing the Beat Retreat Sunset Ceremony. There will also be live tribute bands on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening.
Out at sea a naval contingency will return to provide a nautical backdrop in the bay and anchorage tours will be available.
