A BUNGALOW in Springbourne has been shut down by the courts after a “sustained period of concerning activity”.

1 Masons Court, 148a Windham Road has been closed for three months after an application for the order was made at Poole Magistrates’ Court earlier this month.

The only people allowed to return to the property over the course of the closure will be agents or contractors employed by Sovereign Housing Association.

Matthew King, BCP Council’s community enforcement and anti-social behaviour manager, said: “This closure order is the culmination of joint agency working between Dorset Police and Bournemouth Borough Council, now BCP Council, following a sustained period of concerning activity and behaviour at the premises.

“This course of action is always a last resort, but it was deemed necessary in this case due to the serious nuisance and disorder emanating from the property and the impact that was having on the local community.

“The police and council continue to work in collaboration to robustly deal with individuals or groups who have a detrimental effect on the local community due to drug related activity from their home address.”

It is understood that the council has this year taken a record number of cases to court for closure orders.

Most recently, a property in Bournemouth’s exclusive Talbot Woods was closed down after magistrates heard there have been raucous parties every weekend since the spring.

Loud gatherings were held in the swimming pool and jacuzzi of 24 Braidley Road, which was advertised online as The Stag House and The Party House.

The property, which was let by Canford Cliffs millionaire Max Walker, 54, and is owned by Stephen Millar, was closed down for three months in early July after magistrates heard neighbours had complained of a “massive amount of noise”.

However, Millar returned to the court to apply to have the order discharged the following week.

Magistrates agreed to lift the closure after hearing the property will be turned back into a family home.

Mr King told the Daily Echo: “Steps have been taken by the owner to revert the property into a dwelling house and we are hopeful that it will be occupied by a family in due course.

“Local residents who were adversely affected by this have been updated.”
