A LUCKY driver avoided a serious crash by inches this morning after a stolen Audi was dumped in a "dangerous position" on an A338 sliproad.

The driver of a blue Renault Megane undertook the white A5 convertible after attempting to exit the southbound sliproad for King's Park at around 9.40am.

The motorist ploughed between the car and a hedge, damaging his Megane and the Audi but avoiding injury.

The incident was posted on the Dorset Traffic Cops Facebook page.

The post, which was put online this morning, reads: "We're currently dealing with a road traffic collision after a white Audi A5 convertible was abandoned in a dangerous position on the sliproad.

"Did you see who abandoned the vehicle?

"Do you have them on dashcam? Please let us know."

Witnesses say the car was abandoned last night. It was seen on the sliproad at around 11pm with its hazard lights on.

It has now been confirmed that the Audi was stolen.

PC Mark Palmer, of Dorset Traffic Cops, said the vehicle has been recovered and a forensic examination is now taking place.

He called for anyone with information or dashcam footage which may show a person near the Audi to come forward by visiting dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting 55190117193.
