A MAN suffered a serious head injury after getting out a moving car in Christchurch.

The man, aged in his 40s, was travelling along the A35 as a front seat passenger this morning.

He got out the maroon-coloured Mazda 3, which then crashed. No other vehicles were involved.

The incident happened between Stoney Lane Roundabout and Fountain Roundabout.

Police were called to the scene at 11.03am.

The ambulance service also attended.

The man was taken to Southampton General Hospital to be treated for a serious head injury.

His condition is not life-threatening, a spokesperson for Dorset Police confirmed.

The driver of the car, a man aged in his 80s from Christchurch, was uninjured.

The road was cleared at 12.50pm.

Police Constable Mark Palmer, of the traffic police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police to come forward.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have any relevant dashcam footage that could help my investigation.”
