BATTEN down the hatches, grid your lions and fasten your internal organs for another night of all-original moshtastic metal at Finns in Weymouth next Friday, July 26.

And once again those hard-working weirdos at Realm of Wrongness promotions have pulled out all the stops and put together a top bill of four bands all playing their own brand of metallic magnificence.

Headlining are Bournemouth’s very own grammatically-challenged grindcore tech metal-heads aAnd? who list their influences as: ‘Metal. Beer. Girls.’

Glad to see they’ve got their priorities right anyway…

They tell me: “We got together to write music for tax reasons and girls but that worked so well it’s now just maybe the tax reasons and the free beer.”

As you can see from their picture here today, they’re doing so well even their stage outfits are made from small cheques…

Also playing next Friday are No Worth Of Man, three-piece funk-infused metal merchants from Farnborough, and grumpy foursome Gutlocker who hail from Woking, ‘a quaint Surrey town full of alien tripods’, they tell me.

And finally, Weymouth’s very own Kutna Hora will be flying the flag for south Dorset with their sonic cathedral of pioneering soundscapes.

It’s just £3 on the door from 7pm, you crazy pop kids.

Moving on and it doesn’t seem five minutes since the last Quayside Music festival, does it?

Well, it’s almost two months and there’s a smaller version coming up this Sunday, July 21 with  another choice selection of live music by Weymouth’s Town Bridge.

Kicking off at midday with Nathan Jon, there’s a wide range of musical genres with sounds from Hardcore Troubadours, The Tea Party, Rexes Hollow, Between Bars, Tom and the Clementynes, Under the Carousel with Foo Fakers bringing the show to a close outside and Biproxy picking up the party in The Anchor from around 1030pm.

And finally, next weekend is the Bridport Folk Festival, conveniently situated in and around Bridport and featuring, well, folk, funnily enough.

There are more than 65 acts performing on five stages over the weekend of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 26, 27 and 28 with two main headline concerts.

First up on the Friday at Bridport Arts Centre, the legendary Julie Felix teams up with singer-songwriter, troubadour and all-round good guy Reg Meuross for what promises to be a pretty remarkable evening.

Tickets at £15.50 are available from the town’s TIC and Bridport Music.

And Saturday’s main event is at the Electric Palace and features Bristol-based Balkan fusion purveyors Karsilama plus Fine Lines, a Cheshire-based six-piece who specialise in Americana and roots.

Tickets at £15.50 are available from the box office on 01308 424901 and for a full run-down at the folk festival events, see bridportfolkfestival.com
