TWENTY years ago a young group of time travellers donned togas, loincloths and more as they took part in an annual sports day.

Pupils and staff from Victoria School, Branksome, got together on July 21, 1999, as they raced around in their historical fancy-dress games.

The theme for the event was the Ages of Man, and the 114 pupils dressed as Vikings, hippies, Romans and cavemen.

The youngsters, aged three to 19, were divided into nine teams and, while the children were zipping through time, some even dressed as the time lord himself – Dr Who.

All children took inspiration from a long time ago, but some took it from a galaxy far far away and dressed as Star Wars characters.

“There’s a tremendous atmosphere,” said vice-principal Sue Stratis at the time.

“It’s a spectacle to be seen.”
