DELIGHTED staff and students are celebrating after Glenmoor Academy was rated Outstanding by Ofsted inspectors.

The all-girls school, sited next to Winton Academy for boys in Bournemouth, advanced from a rating of Good at its last inspection.

Both academies, run by United Learning, now have the highest possible Ofsted grade.

Inspectors visited Glenmoor for two days in June and spoke to staff, parents and some of the Beswick Avenue school's 784 pupils.

In a report, lead inspector Andrew Lovett said: "The executive principal and principal, working together, have an unrelenting focus on continual improvement.

"They are excellent motivators who have captured the imagination of teachers and harnessed the collective effort of staff across the school."

Mr Lovett praised the "consistently high" quality of teaching and said pupils make more progress than in the vast majority of schools.

He added: "The school's outcomes have risen each year for the last three years as a direct result of improvements in the quality of teaching.

"The quality of relationships between teachers and pupils is very high. Behaviour is exemplary. There is a harmonious buzz as pupils move around the school."

Stuart Ingram, Principal of the Glenmoor and Winton Academies, said: "Following Winton’s inspection earlier this year, we are delighted that both our boys’ and girls’ academies are now rated Outstanding across the board. This Ofsted report for Glenmoor is a huge vote of confidence for us all – highlighting staff’s unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and the outstanding attitudes and abilities of our students.

"I would like to thank all our girls, our excellent staff team and members of our wider school community for their continuing support and contributions towards this fantastic achievement."

Dame Sally Coates, Director of Secondary Education at United Learning, added: "The inspectors’ report ratifies what everyone around the school has known for some time; that Glenmoor is a school where students make exceptional progress, enjoy their learning and are encouraged to broaden their interests through a whole range of additional opportunities.

"It is testament to the excellent work of all the staff, governors and students over the past few years in building upon its previous strengths to ensure that every aspect of school life is wholeheartedly supported and is as good as it can be."
