A NUMBER of summer firework displays are set to light up the skies over Dorset in the coming weeks – and they’re all free.

1. Poole: Poole’s big annual firework bonanza will get your Thursdays nights off with a bang. Families are invited to enjoy an evening of free entertainment from 7pm at Rockley’s Summer Spectacular which takes place every Thursday from July 25 to August 29 on Poole Quay. The fun starts from 7pm with live music, entertainers and children’s activities and fireworks at 10pm.

The opening night on July 25 also includes Poole’s annual Cycle Celebration featuring acrobatic cycle displays from the Action Sports Tour plus the chance to have a go on balance bikes (with advice from cycle trainers), browse a wide range of cycle stalls and have a say on where new cycle lanes should be built in Poole.

New for 2019 is the opportunity to meet the Beryl Bike Share team, take a bike for test ride and get the chance to win some prizes.

There will be the popular Bling Your Bike competition with children encouraged to decorate their bikes using whatever materials they wish. The Bike of the Night will be chosen at 8.15pm with some great prizes available. Instant prizes will also be on offer with a great cycle based colouring competition.

2. Bournemouth: Friday night fireworks have become as much of a tradition in the town as fish and chips on the beach. This year the displays will take place every Friday from August 2 through to August 23 starting at 10pm at the seafront near the pier. There will also be additional firework displays as part of the Bournemouth Air Festival at the end of August.

3. Christchurch: The Christchurch Carnival Committee has been around for 100 years and each year they organise a fun family weekend which includes a carnival parade through the town, live music, a funfair and a big fireworks display which will take place on the Quay at 9.30pm on Saturday, August 17.

4. Swanage: There will be three firework displays during Swanage Carnival Week on July 27, July 31 and August 3. All displays start at 9.45pm.
