IT was a day of record breaking for pupils of Parkstone Grammar School as they turned in winning performances during their annual sports day.
Four new shot-putting events and a sixth form discus were added to the programme on July 12, 1989, with the winners setting new standards.
County high jump champion Theresa Francis, from the second year, leapt 1.35m for her first place, well below her personal best of 1.45m.
Another sporting star from the second year was Karen Manuel who won the long jump and 200m. She missed the sprint record by half a second.
A second was trimmed from the second year 4 x100 m relay record. Class 2W’s time of 54.4 seconds was better than the seniors.
Then-games teacher Christina Edwards said: “Our school records are very good and it’s difficult to break them every year."
