MILES of the A31 westbound through the New Forest will shut overnight from Monday.

As reported, there will be closures at night from junction two of the M27 to Ringwood from July 8 to Wednesday, July 24.

The carriageway will be shut between 9pm and 6am, Monday to Friday only.

Highway chiefs say the closures are needed to allow engineers from Kier Highways, on behalf of Highways England, to resurface a section of the road near Picket Post and renew road markings along the A31 and M27.

A signed diversion will be in place from junction two. It will take motorists north on the A36 to Salisbury, then south on the A338 to join the A31 at the Ringwood interchange.

A spokesperson from Highways England said: "Works are, as always, subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
