A 40 foot long flying horse flew over a park this weekend.

Spectators were amazed as the enormous animal soared across Stanmer Park on the outskirts of Brighton.

The inflatable was just one of the impressive creations to be flown at this year’s Brighton Kite Festival.

The annual event is run by Brighton Kite Flyers and last year more than 10,000 people made their way to the park to witness the spectacle.

Alan Reynolds, who lives near Hailsham, is a long-time member of the club and explained why he loves kite flying.

The 74-year-old said: “I have been building kites since I was a teenager.

“You have only got to give a child a kite to fly and they will be smiling from ear to ear.

“That joy doesn’t stop as you get older.”

The “Pegasus” kite was just one of a number of huge kites to be flown during the weekend.

Alan said: “We had a 90ft wide octopus flying on Saturday. Our biggest kite is a life-size blue whale. The public and especially the children tend to really love the big ones.

“Kids really enjoy rushing around and trying to lie underneath the big kites when they come down.

“But some of the adults prefer to watch the demonstrations put on by professional flyers.”

Flyers overcame some testing wind conditions to send their kites to the skies and Alan said the event was “a fun day out for all the family”.

The festival was free to attend but Brighton Kite Flyers asked for donations to support their work.
