AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after dashcam footage emerged of a Deliveroo cyclist clinging to the back of a moving truck.

The cyclist is also seen swerving in front of vehicles and making aggressive gestures towards another motorist.

And the footage shows a heavy goods vehicle taking action to avoid the cyclist, who appears to be impatiently edging forwards as he waits at traffic lights.

The footage was recorded at 12.35pm on Friday in Alder Road in Poole.

It shows the takeaway delivery rider, travelling on an electric bike, going up the hill towards the junction with Herbert Avenue.

He is seen to overtake a van before swerving in front of it to get into a cycle lane.

When traffic stops at the traffic lights he gesticulates at a driver and almost crashes into the back of a tipper van.

He than grabs the back of the van as it moves off and is pulled up the hill.

The Daily Echo has shown the footage to Deliveroo and a spokesman said: “Deliveroo takes rider and road safety incredibly seriously. We are investigating this matter.

“Riders must obey the highway code and respect other road users when working with us. We will be following up on this point with the rider concerned.”

The footage has also been viewed by Dorset Police and a spokesman there said: “We would urge all motorists to drive considerately and safely at all times and respect other road users.

“We would also urge anyone who witnesses any road traffic offences to report it to Dorset Police at dorset.police.uk, via email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101.”

Deliveroo riders have come under fire in many parts of the country.

They and employees of similar companies have been accused of cycling dangerously in pedestrianised areas and failing to obey a range of road traffic regulations.

London-based Deliveroo operates in more than 200 towns and cities and delivers food from a wide range of eateries to customers.
