THE former manager of Wimborne Town FC sobbed as he admitted secretly filming women in changing rooms and toilets.

Alexander Browne, 46, pleaded guilty to eight counts of voyeurism and one of arson on the first day of a planned trial yesterday.

One further charge of voyeurism was ordered to lie on file.

As reported, cameras were found in the female staff changing room at HMP/YOI Portland in November last year. Browne worked at the prison as a guard and fitness instructor.

On the same day, a fire broke out at the prison.

Other voyeurism offences were carried out at a Dorset school and at the Dorset County FA in Poole.

The defendant, of Chickerell, had initially denied all the offences, but changed his plea during a hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court.

Browne carried out his crimes between January and December last year.

A full public gallery watched on as Browne, who wore a grey suit and a white shirt, wept in the dock as he pleaded guilty.

The case has now been adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

Browne was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on Monday, August 5. He faces a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison.

Mitigating, Francesca Whebell said: “Mr Browne is aware that a number of people involved are in the public gallery, and he wishes to pass on through me a sincere and heartfelt apology for the effect this has had on them.”

Judge Robert Pawson, who will sentence Browne, said: “You have pleaded guilty to nine separate offences.

“Eight are offences of voyeurism. They are serious offences, Mr Browne, the impact of which is not insignificant.”

The defendant played for Weymouth Football Club for 10 years. He made more than 600 appearances for the club before moving to Dorchester Town in 2003.

In 2008 he was announced as the new player manager for Wimborne Town. He held the role until 2011 and was the first manager to take the Magpies into Southern Football League.

Browne was also a coach for Dorset County Football Association.
