THE RSPCA is appealing for information after a pair of rabbits were found dumped in a pet carrier near Ferndown. The male and female English Spot rabbits were found at the end of Elmhurst Road in West Moors by a member of the public at 10.30am last Saturday. The person took the rabbits straight to the RSPCA Ashley Heath animal rescue centre.

Inspector Patrick Bailey, who is investigating for the animal welfare charity, said: “Elmhurst Road is a dead-end, residential street and they were found at the entrance to the plantation at the end of this road, which is a large area of forest with many footpaths weaving through it, making it an extremely popular area with local dog walkers.

“They were both in the same pet carrier, which was grey, with a turquoise door and handle, and both appear in good condition and have clearly been handled in the past.

“It’s irresponsible for someone to simply abandon them without a care for their welfare. We’d always encourage anyone who is struggling to look after an animal to seek help. Dumping an animal is never the answer but sadly it is something the RSPCA sees regularly.

“If anyone recognises these rabbits or has any information about them they can ring us on 0300 123 8018.”
