A PERSON has died after being struck by a train at Pokesdown railway station yesterday morning.

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP) were called out at 6.30am to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A spokesperson from BTP said: "Paramedics also attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to identify the person and inform their family.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

All lines between Bournemouth and Brockenhurst stations were blocked. They have now reopened.

South Western Railway said trains are now running through the stations but may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. 

Disruption was expected until 2pm. 

A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: "We received reports that a person was struck by a train between Bournemouth and Brockenhurst. Our response teams and the emergency services have been assisting with the incident.

"In order to allow emergency services access to the railway all power to the track was switched off in the affected area.

"All lines have now reopened and trains are now running through the affected area.

Replacement buses were requested and rail tickets are being accepted on the First Bus X54 route between Poole and Weymouth at no extra cost.
