PARKING concerns have seen plans for a two-storey extension on top of a block of flats in East Cliff rejected.

Planning permission for a single extra floor on top of Wingfield Court in Manor Road was approved by Bournemouth council in 2016 and 2017.

However, its successor, BCP Council, said the larger extension would create an “unacceptable” parking situation in the area.

Work on the approved scheme, which accommodates eight flats, has yet to start with Tippey Construction submitting plans to increase its scale last year.

Had it been approved, the construction of a sixth storey would have provided two flats on top of the eight in the fifth floor.

But planning permission has been refused due to concerns about the lack of parking and the location of the waste store.

A report by planning officer Richard Cable said there was no objection to the design of the extension but “the substandard parking provision could result in vehicles parking inconsiderately and illegally on-street”

The report adds that this “could prejudice the condition of highway safety and impact on local amenity”.

Mr Cable also raised concerns that the waste storage area was too far away from the road along and the path to it was too narrow to meet required standards.
