A TEENAGER from Poole is joining a guard of honour on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral as part of her role as St John Ambulance’s cadet of the year for Dorset and southern Wiltshire.

Clarris Paul, 17, will play a key role in the health charity’s St John’s Day celebrations, on Saturday June 22, which will include a service in the cathedral and family-friendly activities in nearby Paternoster Square.

The volunteer with St John’s Wallisdown Cadet Unit, which is open to 10 to 17-year-olds, was named district cadet of the year 2019 after winning a recent selection event.

“St John's Day has been a much-awaited day for all me and it will be an honour to be represent my district,” said Clarris, who attends Parkstone Grammar School

“The cadet of the year team, as well as all the volunteers in our organisation across the country have come so far in driving St John Ambulance forward and it will be nice to celebrate that.”

Next weekend, Clarris will join around 30 fellow winners from counties across England to greet the Lord Mayor of the City of London on his arrival.

The cadets will then move inside to form part of a procession during the ceremony, as part of the charity’s annual celebrations at the cathedral.

St John’s Day is a key event in the charity’s calendar and up to 2,000 volunteers and staff are expected to attend.
