ROCK band Biffy Clyro brought the 2019 Isle of Wight Festival to a spectacular end last night.

With a set lasting almost two hour the Scottish trio threw everything at it with a high energy performance that sent the crowd home happy.

Confetti, flames streamers and a catalogue of anthems spanning almost 20 years Biffy closed what was a memorable festival in style.

And the climax was an incredible firework display as the band, returning to the festival after five years, finished their set with the 2013 classic Stingin’ Belle.

It was a fitting end to the final day of music at Seaclose Park in Newport.

The only disappointment was the decision of singer Jess Glynne to pull out just ten minutes before she was due to stage.

Twenty four hours earlier she had supported the Spice Girls at Wembley but according to organisers she was suffering from ‘exhaustion’ and couldn’t perform much to the disappointment of many younger fans in the 60,000 crowd.

Former Verve front man Richard Ashcroft moved his performance forward and played an extended acoustic set. He had the crowd singing along to Bitter Sweet Symphony before being joined by the rest of his band on stage.

Earlier Madness had us all dancing with hits including Baggy Trousers and Our House, while Tom Walker and Sigrid also took to the main stage.

Over the three days the crowd had been treated to a line up which included Noel Gallagher, Fat Boy Slim, George Ezra and the Hacienda Classical Orchestra to make the Isle of Wight Festival 2019 a huge hit.

Bring on 2020…
