A NEW cardiology service which uses GPS technology to accurately detect and guide treatment strategies for complex heart arrhythmia conditions.

Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital has become the first independent hospital in Dorset to offer the service.

The treatment, which uses the Carto 3 cardiac mapping system to generate a sophisticated three- dimensional anatomical map of a patient’s heart and thorax, provides accurate diagnosis and guidance for treatment of more complex conditions.

Heart arrhythmias, or heart rhythm problems, are experienced by around 2 million people each year in the UK.

Dr John Paisey, consultant cardiologist, said: “The technology allows us to create and guide treatment strategies which we were previously unable to offer.

"This means we can now care for the vast majority of patients throughout their whole treatment journey without the need to transfer these complex cases to specialist units outside of Dorset if the patient wishes to continue their treatment at an independent hospital.”
