VISITORS to the sixth annual Cheese and Chilli Festival were challenged to tackle the Bagel of Doom in a Man v Food challenge.

The event was one of scores of attractions designed to keep all the family amused at the festival, held at the events field near Hurn Bridge Equestrian Centre in Christchurch.

Thousands of people turned out on the first day yesterday to try the vast array of food available and to enjoy entertainment for all ages.

Organiser Simon Stewart said: "The weather has been a challenge but we have already seen more than 3,000 people through the gate.

"We try to make sure there is something for the whole family and entertainment includes Punch and Judy, a magic show, human-sized table football, crazy golf and a falconry display.

"There is also the Bagel of Doom challenge and a chilli-eating competition with prizes."

There are a vast array of stalls with chilli and cheese-related items for sale.

The festival continues today.
