THREE young swans have died after finding themselves covered from head to toe in oil.

The RSPCA are reminding residents to dispose of waste responsibly following the incident.

Officers from the charity rescued a family of swans from Towyn Park after they appeared to be covered in cooking oil.

The two adults were covered with it underneath but the three cygnets were covered all over with the liquid.

One of the cygnets was in a bad way when officers arrived and was struggling to keep warm.

The parents had been frantically trying to preen it off.

A spokesperson from RSPCA Cymru said: "The two adult swans and the three cygnets were taken to an RSPCA wildlife centre for treatment, however, sadly, despite best efforts the three cygnets died.

"We were unable to identify the source of the oil but thankfully we have had no further reports of other birds in the area being affected."
