SIX noisy students have been fined for playing loud music at a property in Bournemouth.

Emily Heaven, 21, Emily Stammers, 21, Flora Lewis-Jones, 20, Molly Saunders, 21, Meghan Hayes, 21, and Emerald Baxter, 21, were taken to court by BCP Council for failing to comply with a prohibition notice.

The students, who attended the Arts University Bournemouth, appeared at Poole Magistrates' Court on May 16.

They all admitted failure to comply with the notice.

The court heard that on February 10, this year, after being served with an abatement notice at their Talbot Road address, they "without reasonable excuse contravened or failed to comply with a prohibition, namely playing of amplified music and raised voices, imposed by the notice."

Each student was fined £80, ordered to pay £69 costs and a victim surcharge of £30.

An Arts University Bournemouth spokesman said: "Arts University Bournemouth makes every effort to encourage students to integrate into the local community and to ensure they are aware of their community responsibilities.

"We part-fund and work with both environmental health and the police to respond to all instances of noise complaints, and AUB’s community wardens work throughout the year to raise awareness of how to report any instances of noise nuisance or antisocial behaviour.

"If repeated instances of antisocial behaviour are notified to us during a student’s time at AUB, the university can consider disciplinary action."

The order was initially served on the young women under section 80(1) of the Environmental Protection Act by Bournemouth Borough Council.

On that occasion the students, who lived at Osborne Road, Winton, Bournemouth, were each fined between £50 and £100 each.
