A MUSEUM in Wimborne is offering behind-the-scenes guided tours as it prepares for a major redevelopment.

The rooms in the Grade II listed Priest’s House Museum have been emptied before works begin. This offers visitors an opportunity to see more of the building's many period features.

The oldest part of the house dates back to the Elizabethan period and each subsequent generation has made its mark.

A new museum and information centre will be opening in spring 2020 following a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £982,200.

"The grant will be used to enhance the visitor and volunteer experience and ensure that it is fit for the challenges of the 21st century," the museum said.

"This grant forms part of the £1.6 million Revival project. The works include an enhanced frontage, full access to the first floor galleries for the first time, and new exhibitions and displays."

The bookable tours are on Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9, at 10am, 12pm and 2pm, and Tuesday and Thursday, June 11 and 13, at 7pm.

Tickets cost £5 (including refreshments) and are available from Wimborne Tourist Information Centre or on 01202 886116. Booking is essential and places are limited.
