SHE'S AT it again! Daredevil Dawn Goodson is taking on the world's fastest Zip Wire Challenge in Wales next month in aid of Motor Neurone Disease.

Despite being in her 90th year, the challenge won't faze Dawn - in fact, it could be seen as a bit tame compared to what she's achieved before.

Fearless Dawn has also opened the Bournemouth Air festival as a wing walker and abseiled the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, with all sponsor proceeds going to the East Dorset and New Forest Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The branch uses the money for specific projects to help people with Motor Neurone Disease, a terminal illness with no cure. Messages from the motor neurones - a type of nerve - gradually stop reaching the muscles. This leads those muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste. Gradually MND affects how patients walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.

One of the worst symptoms is voice loss but thanks to Dawn and the dedicated work of the East Dorset and New Forest branch of Motor Neurone Disease Association, Dorset has lead they way in a voice banking project using the latest technology. Poole Hospital has said that it now has enough funds to help MND patients record their voice so they have a means of communication when they need it.

Dawn started fundraising for MND after her late husband, John, lost his life and voice to the disease. Losing the ability to speak adds upset and frustration to an already horrific illness, so, Dawn decided to raise awareness and funds, so local people with MND could bank their own voice before they lost it for good.

To help her in her latest challenge she's roped in some fellow daredevils to take on Velocity 2, the 100 mph zip line soaring over Penrhyn Quarry in Snowdonia.

Neil Allen whose wife Annie has MND and their son Samuel, 15 are stepping up to the challenge along with Annie’s friend, Gina Mills and another friend who lost his brother to MND.

Annie lost her voice over a year ago, but uses her banked voice daily.

Dawn said: "We're funding the zip wire challenge ourselves and every little donation helps."
