A BOY in his teens has been arrested after a cat was shaken by the scruff of its neck and kicked during an 'upsetting' attack at a Poole estate.

As reported in the Daily Echo, RSPCA officials called for witnesses to speak to them after the incident, which happened at the junction of Sherborne Road and Adastral Road in Canford Heath just after 6.20pm on April 28.

The charity said a youngster had been seen lifting the cat by the back of its neck and shaking it.

This week, Poole police officers said a youth has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson from the team said: "Following a joint investigation with the RSPCA, we have now made an arrest in connection with this incident.

"A 17-year-old local boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. He has been released under investigation as we continue to carry out enquiries into this matter.

"We would like to remind the public that this matter is the subject of an active police investigation where identification could be important to the case.

"We would urge people not to speculate on social media or share information online relating to the names of individuals that might be involved as that could interfere with this process."
