A CYCLIST suffered life-threatening injuries in a collision with a motorbike this morning.

Emergency services were called to the A351 between Wareham and Stoborough where they discovered a white KSR Moto motorbike had collided with a bicycle.

The collision took place at around 9.45am and police have now appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward with information.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 70s and from Farnborough in Hampshire, was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital for treatment to injuries that are believed to be life-threatening. His family has been informed.

The motorcyclist, a local man aged in his 70s, was taken by ambulance to Poole Hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

Road closures were put in place to allow the emergency services to respond to the incident and for an examination of the scene to take place.

The road was closed between the Worgret roundabout and the Stoborough roundabout.

It was reopened at around 4pm. 

Sergeant Nikki Burt, of the traffic unit, said: "We are carrying out a full investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and has not already spoken to police to please contact us.

"I would also urge anyone who was driving in the area around the time of the collision and has dashcam fitted to check their footage for anything relevant.

"Finally, I would like to thank motorists and anyone affected for their patience and understanding during the road closures. These were necessary to enable to emergency services to deal with the incident and to allow for a full examination of the scene."
