THE head teacher of a Poole primary school has received high praise following a visit from Ofsted inspectors.

Longfleet Primary head Nigel Helm received a letter from inspector Stephen Mc Shane after a visit to the Jolliffe Avenue school.

Mr McShane confirmed the school has retained its rating of Good and said: "Governors and senior leaders have tackled the priorities from the previous inspection and ensure that pupils enjoy school, learn well and make progress.

"Morale, commitment and parental satisfaction remain high. Your leadership team is honest and reflective and is committed to improving outcomes for all pupils and has a shared understanding of the priorities for the school."

He said pupils work well together and went on: "From their earliest years in school they learn to attend and concentrate in class because of the school's high expectations of behaviour and respect for each other."

The inspector urged leaders to ensure that the high quality of teaching and learning in most classrooms is consistent throughout the school and that activities always challenge pupils to do their best.
