ADULTS, children and people with disabilities all united and to take part in the first sensory event of its kind in Poole Park.

Dorset disability charity Diverse Abilities hosted the innovative Sensory One, which provide a multi-sensory experience using sound, smell, texture and colour for all those taking part.

Participants started the route through a light tunnel filled with LED lights before heading to the giant bubble zone. The ribbon sky zone provided rows of different texture materials hanging down from a roof of the marque and the sensory sounds area created a variety of different noises from wind chimes, while the smell zone was filled with LUSH products providing scented bath salts for participants to run their hands and create their own.

At the end of the route everyone got to pass under a five-foot sensory parachute before collecting their unique sensory medal.

Sue Reid, events manager at Diverse Abilities, said: “We were thrilled with the success of our first Sensory One event, which celebrated inclusion and getting people together, no matter their age or ability. It is quite common for separate events to be created for people living with a disability, therefore we wanted to create an event that changed this dynamic, bringing people together and taking part in an event alongside each other.

"We are very proud that it is the first of its kind on the South Coast and delighted by how much everyone enjoyed the experience.”
