TRAIN passengers faced delays through the New Forest this morning due to a problem with a set of points.

Services that travel between Brockenhurst and Southampton Central, including routes from Dorset to London are affected.

A statement on South Western Railway's website said: "Due to a problem with a set of points maintained by Network Rail between Brockenhurst and Southampton Central trains have to run at reduced speed on all lines."

Network Rail staff attended the set of points and manually sett routes and signalled trains over them.

As a result, trains had to run at reduced speeds.

A subsequent statement at around 12.30pm from South Western Railway said: "Trains are now able to run normally between Brockenhurst and Southampton Central following a points failure between these stations earlier today."
