A 'SOLD-OUT' reggae festival due to take place in Boscombe will no longer go ahead this summer.

The Bournemouth Reggae Weekender was going to be held at Kings Park on the weekend of July 6 and 7, however organisers Afro-disiac Live Radio announced the event was postponed until the summer of 2020.

In a statement posted to the event’s Facebook page, organisers explained they had made the decision to cancel this year’s event following advice from the council.

Nearly a thousand people had expressed interest in attending the event across the weekend on Facebook.

The free festival was billed as the first reggae in the park event in Bournemouth.

“We are sorry to announce that the Bournemouth Reggae Weekender event in Kings Park is postponed,” organisers said in their statement.

“We received [an] excellent response from reggae lovers from Bournemouth and wider afield.

“As we prepared for the first reggae in the park in Bournemouth, we were excited about the public response, including both pre-registration tickets and volunteer recruitment.

“However, on the advice of the council regulatory team we are moving the date forward to summer 2020. As this is a family event we are determined to get things right and work with the council.

“We are aware that many of you have been looking forward to this rare chance to experience the diverse cultural enrichment to our community [and] your chance will come again.

“A new date for the event will be announced on our platforms when we can provide the best possible experience for our guests.

“We appreciate your support of our important mission where we all come together to pay tribute to reggae music, adding to the thread that weaves the cloth of “togetherness and diversity” within Bournemouth.”

The event was organised to celebrate Bournemouth’s ‘rich cultural diversity’, with an emphasis on Afro-Caribbean culture, and promised ‘first-class entertainment’.

Live performances from a variety of bands, artists and DJs were scheduled, as well as more than 30 food, clothing and crafts stalls.
