A CHARITY football match is being organised in memory of a life-long AFC Bournemouth fan.
Jamie Bird, from Pokesdown, passed away in January following a battle with brain cancer. He was admitted to hospital in October, but able to welcome his third child, Amelia, into the world.
Cherries supporters paid tribute to the 31-year-old with a minute's applause during the
31st minute of the AFC Bournemouth v West Ham Unitedgame, organised by Jamie's brother Luke Fletcher, 37. Cherries boss Eddie Howe also joined in the applause from his technical area on the sideline.
Luke is now putting on a charity football match between the Jamie Bird All Stars, a team made up of friends and family, v AFC Fiveways, a Sunday division three team.
The game takes place at the Electric Club in Broadway, Bournemouth, at 11am on Sunday, May 5, in aid of Macmillan Caring Locally. who cared for Jamie during his illness.
Luke said: "I said at the time I would be arranging a fundraiser for Macmillan Caring Locally, who were so brilliant in looking after him. "We are organising this match in memory of Jamie, trying to raise as much funds and awareness for Macmillan Caring Locally."
