POLICE were called after more than a thousand people attended an illegal rave near Corfe Castle.

The event, which took place across two fields at Wytch, disturbed residents for miles around.

Police received multiple calls about the rave shortly after midnight on Saturday. The noise kept locals and holidaymakers camping in the area awake all night, and the rave did not wind down until late Sunday morning. However, it started up again on Sunday night.

A large number of vehicles were also reported travelling through the area.

Officers were at the scene and spoke with the landowner.

Chief Inspector Andy Edwards, of Dorset Police, said on Sunday afternoon that officers were "monitoring the situation".

"We have received a significantly high number of calls overnight from concerned and upset residents who have had their sleep disturbed by the noise levels coming from the event.

"I would like to reassure them that we are fully aware of this unauthorised large gathering of people and we are monitoring the situation and taking steps to deal with it.

“Officers are at the scene making enquiries and this includes contact with the land owner.

“I would like to send a direct message to those at the event – you are trespassing, please leave and go home immediately.”

Simon Patterson, from Wareham, said yesterday: "It is a horrifying noise. You can hear it from miles and miles away and it's been keeping us up all weekend.

"It is a huge gathering of people all listening to horrific Ibiza music. It's really really loud. I have a house full of 20 and 30 year olds and even they are horrified by all the noise."
