FIREFIGHTERS put out a thatch roof that was ablaze in Purbeck on Saturday night.
Ten crews were called to New Line, off the A351 Gallows Hill in Norden at 8.40pm.
When the first firefighters arrived at the scene, the roof of the house was "well alight", according to Swanage Fire Station.
Additional fire engines were requested to help tackle the blaze.
Sandbanks Ferry helped transport several crews from the Bournemouth and Poole area over to Purbeck.
"All crews worked very hard to make a fire break and strip the roof of the thatch which helped reduce the damage to the inside of the property," the Swanage crew said.
The fire was extinguished using two main lines, six hose reel jets and a compressed air foam hose.
It was under control within two hours.
The Red Cross helped the homeowners during the incident.
Firefighters returned to the scene on Sunday morning to reinspect the roof.
