A TEENAGER has received an award after saving a patient's life while volunteering with the St John Ambulance.

Aidan Lord, 18, from Barton-on-Sea, was presented with a Celebrate Saving a Life Award at an awards ceremony in Bristol.

Aidan was on attachment with a South West Ambulance Crew in Autumn 2018 when the crew was called to a cardiac arrest in Wimborne.

He helped with carrying out effective CPR, managed to get a return of spontaneous circulation, and then transferred the patient to hospital in Poole.

He received his award at the Celebrate West Awards Dinner, attended by 240 people.

A spokesman for the St John leadership said: "The awards night celebrates and recognises the people who have gone above and beyond to accomplish something extra special for the organisation, and their local community.

"These successes, combined with the hard work, dedication and support shown by each and every person in west region, have led to some amazing achievements that we can all be proud of."

Aidan is a former St John Cadet who is now a youth leader. He has volunteered hundreds of hours over the last few yeas at events including shows at the Bouremouth International Centre and AFC Bournemouth matches at the Vitality Stadium.
