A THIEF who stole alcohol worth hundreds of pounds from Waitrose and Asda has been jailed.

Joseph Scibilia, of Evering Avenue in Poole, repeatedly raided the supermarkets for whiskey and vodka.

The 39-year-old stole two bottles of Absolut Vodka worth £40 from Waitrose in Wimborne Road on January 19.

Days later, on January 25, he returned to the shop and stole two bottles of Bells whiskey and one bottle of Famous Grouse worth £86.50. The next day, he was back, stealing three bottles of Bells whiskey and one bottle of Famous Grouse worth £64.50.

On February 23, he shoplifted ten bottles of whiskey worth £334 from Asda at Castlepoint. He stole five more bottles worth £160 on February 27, and then five more worth £188 from the supermarket on February 28.

Scibilia appeared at Poole Magistrates' Court last week to admit six counts of theft, one of failing to surrender to custody and one of failing to comply with the supervision requirements imposed following release from a period of imprisonment. He was jailed for five months and ordered to pay compensation to the supermarkets.
