A POOLE pub is now serving Parma Violet flavoured cider.

The unlikely marriage is the brainchild of cider maker, Brothers.

The beverage which combines the iconic sweet and Somerset cider is now available at the Jolly Sailor Greene King pub on The Quay in Poole for the next two months.

Served in a 330ml bottle, the Parma Violet cider is described as having “a delicate flavour of sweet violets with a subtle hint of floral notes”.

Calum Cameron, senior drinks category manager at Greene King, said: “The trend for flavoured cider is huge at the moment, which is why we worked with Brothers to create this new cider.

“We’re really excited to launch Brothers Parma Violet Cider exclusively across our pubs, including the Jolly Sailor in Poole.

“Brothers are known for their array of different flavoured drinks and this one is no exception, we’re sure guests who visit the Jolly Sailor will love it.”

Brothers Parma Violet Cider is available at the Jolly Sailor and 1,000 Greene King pubs across the country. The cider is gluten free and suitable for vegans.

However not everyone on social media is so sure it will be a hit. One Twitter user said: “Parma violet cider... imagine what this tastes like on the way back up.”

And another added: “Parma violet flavoured cider... don’t even drink and genuinely couldn’t think of anything worse."

Parma Violets have been manufactured by the Derbyshire company Swizzels Matlow since 1946 and have been an iconic British brand.
