A MAN has been charged with robbery after an alleged raid at a Boscombe bank on Monday.

Police were called to Barclays in Christchurch Road just before 10.30am after a man allegedly walked into the branch with his hand in a carrier bag.

Detectives claim the man approached the cashier and told her to hand over money. No threats of violence were made and no weapon was seen during the reported incident.

Laurence Vonderdell, who lives in Christchurch Road, appeared at Poole Magistrates' Court on Tuesday charged with robbing a woman of £1,220 and a related charge of having an imitation firearm, namely items fashioned to have the appearance of a firearm.

The 50-year-old has been remanded into custody ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court on April 26.
