PLANS to demolish the skittle alley of a “dilapidated” former pub in Stalbridge to make way for two flats have been submitted.
Closed four years ago, the Crown Inn already has planning permission for the conversion of its ground floor to flats.
The latest scheme seeks to demolish part of the pub building to provide an extension to one of the flats and to refurbish the existing upper floor apartments.
In February, a planning application to convert the ground floor of the pub building into two flats was approved by North Dorset District Council.
However, proposals for the building have been revised following discussions with estate agents.
A planning statement says: “Local estate agent advice suggests there is no local need for three-bed flats ad also there is a local need for low cost single person flat accommodation with a focus on elderly persons, hence two-bed and one-bed flats are proposed.
“The applicant is keen to develop this dilapidated building, which has been closed for four years, and to see it in use, well-maintained and providing an asset to the town centre of Stalbridge.”
The latest application will be considered by the end of April.
