A 16-YEAR-OLD girl who died in a collision with a train at Pokesdown station has been named as Kate Louise Mullins.

The Highcliffe School pupil was pronounced dead on Sunday March 17 after police and paramedics were called to the station at 8.45pm.

An inquest into her death opened in Bournemouth this afternoon where Acting Senior Dorset Coroner Brendan Allen heard she died of multiple injuries.

The teenager, who lived at Halifax Way in Mudeford, Christchurch was formally identified by her mum, Donna Mullins, the inquest was told.

The coroner heard the death of Miss Mullins is being investigated by British Transport Police who have indicated there are no suspicious circumstances.

Floral tributes bearing touching messages were placed at the station on the day after Miss Mullins' death.

They included "Our beautiful baby girl. Miss and love you forever. Sleep tightly angel" and "I'm going to miss you so much. You were such a lovely, friendly and bubbly girl."

Another message said: "Wish I could've known sooner. One of the loveliest people I have ever met and one of the funniest."

Staff at Highcliffe School, where Miss Mullins was a Year 11 GCSE student, introduced counselling and emotional support for students following the tragedy.

In a letter to parents, head teacher Patrick Earnshaw said: "We are devastated by this news. Specialist counselling and emotional support staff from Dorset County Council are already working with our pastoral team and other staff on site supporting students and staff affected by this tragic event.

"I know you will join with me in expressing your deepest sympathy to our student’s family and friends."

Police urged anyone affected by the tragedy to contact Samaritans on 116 123 free of charge at any time.

The inquest was adjourned until November 7 and Mr Allen has requested statements from the British Transport Police, Miss Mullins' GP and her family.
