ALMOST 1,000 people from Dorset took part in a protest over Brexit in London.

The Put It To The People March saw around one million people take to the streets of the capital calling for a second vote on the UK’s departure from the EU.

A total of 16 coaches, including one from Bournemouth University, left Dorset on Saturday.

Genevieve Talon, of Dorset For Europe, said: “It was absolutely fantastic, it was a very happy occasion, there were big smiles and it was very positive. We are very determined that there is a better way forward.”

“We were amazed to see that many people turn out.”

Speakers at the rally included Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Labour deputy leader Tom Watson and former deputy prime minister Michael Heseltine.

Saturday’s demonstrations follow EU leaders agreeing to delay Brexit to give Prime Minister Theresa May a final chance to get her deal through Parliament.

Leaders agreed to extend Brexit to May 22 if Mrs May can get MPs to back her deal in the Commons at the third time of asking.

Ms Talon added: “We know Parliament will not consider a no deal so that will leave two options; revoke Article 50 or have another referendum. Quite frankly, we’d be happy with either option and both have their merits.”
