Voices is the Dorset Echo's weekly youth page - written for young people by young people.Weymouth is known for its clean, sandy beach and shallow sea. However, now it’s turned into a dumping site for rubbish.

Fly tipping has become more common as people dump their unwanted items and rubbish on the beach. Children are at risk of stepping on broken glass dog poo or even needles.

Things like single use plastic finds it’s way to the beach or pollutes the air when burnt at landfills. 100,000 marine animals die every year from plastic entanglement.

You may think that everything you put in the recycling bin gets recycled but only one third of the UK’s rubbish is actually recycled. Poorer places like Dharavi recycle 80% of their rubbish putting the UK to shame. Try to cut down on the amount of plastic in your life and try and use reusable items so they don’t end up on our beaches.

There are people such as Becky Blake who organises free beach clean ups for the public. Anyone can attend and equipment is provided.

The council needs to put more bins around the seafront and town centre to ensure that all litter is put in the bin.
