THE Tivoli theatre in Wimborne has almost become a second home to popular Pink Floyd tribute band The Floyd Effect which returns for the fourth time this weekend.

“We didn’t know much about Wimborne before our first visit in 2016,” says keyboard player Gordon Reid, “but we quickly learned to love the town, not least because the audiences at the Tivoli have been fantastic.

“This year, we’ll be playing them our new Wall Around The Moon concert, highlighting Pink Floyd’s 1979 album The Wall, which remains as relevant today as it was when it was released 40 years ago. In addition, we’ve put together a section that contains some favourites from Meddle, Wish You Were Here, Animals and A Momentary Lapse Of Reason plus, of course, the band’s signature performance of the whole of Dark Side Of The Moon.

“We really enjoy our trips to Wimborne”, adds guitarist and vocalist, John Lovegrove. “It’s become a sort-of ‘twelve don’t quite go completely mad in Dorset’ outing that we look forward to every year. The audiences at the Tivoli really know their Pink Floyd, and we get great feedback from them. It’s also a lovely theatre and big enough to accommodate our full set up - lights, lasers, projections… the whole show – so it promises to be a great night.”

“Fans of Pink Floyd know every nuance of the music,” says bassist Garry Tyrrell, “and they would know instantly if we failed to capture an arrangement, a solo, or even a mood correctly, so we owe it to them to get everything right.”
