FLORAL tributes have been placed on a railway platform following the death of a 16-year-old girl in a collision with a train.

The Year 11 Highcliffe School student died at Pokesdown station on Sunday night.

Friends and family members have left touching notes and counselling and emotional support has been introduced for her classmates at Highcliffe School.

They include: "Our beautiful baby girl. Miss and love you forever. Sleep tightly angel" and "I'm going to miss you so much. You were such a lovely, friendly and bubbly girl."

Another message says: "Wish I could've known sooner.One of the loveliest people I have ever met and one of the funniest."

Officers and paramedics were called to the station just before 8.45pm on Sunday and the GCSE student was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: "At 8.44pm officers were called to Pokesdown station after reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended.

"A 16-year-old girl from Christchurch was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, her family have been informed.

"This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

"British Transport Police are working with partner organisations and a local school to support those affected by these tragic events."

In a letter to parents, Highcliffe School head teacher Patrick Earnshaw said: "It is with the deepest regret that I must inform you of the death of one of our Year 11 students.

"We are devastated by this news. Year 11 were informed in an assembly during period 5.

"Specialist counselling and emotional support staff from Dorset County Council are already working with our pastoral team and other staff on site supporting students and staff affected by this tragic event.

"I know you will join with me in expressing your deepest sympathy to our student’s family and friends."

The identity of the schoolgirl has not been released.
