A NEW musical makes its premiere at the Shelley Theatre in Bournemouth this week. Botox or Bust is written by Lisa Gaye Wright, and will be performed by local actors who are part of Bournemouth-based Encore Productions.

The story follows Madeline Green and her cohorts as she attempts to navigate being newly single in her 50s, taking her on a journey that teaches her there is more to life than schmoozing, spending and designer trends.

Lisa, who now lives in Bournemouth, is an emerging writer and has had previous successes with Loose Change and Tales from The Hourglass.

She said: “‘The perfect woman is a corporate conspiracy, she is a myth, she is hype, an illusion a commodity that doesn’t exist’ are the lyrics that inspired the first song of the piece that evolved into Botox or Bust. I think the subject matter is topical and relevant and I hope it will resonate with men and women.”

Making her directorial debut is Laura Ward, who has worked for the company for several years. “I am thrilled to be working with a talented all-woman cast on Lisa Gaye Wright’s hilarious show ” Laura said. “I’m equally excited to be working alongside the whole team at Encore and bringing this production to one of my favourite theatres in Bournemouth.”

Joanne Mansfield who plays the lead role of Madeline Green said: “It’s a fabulous opportunity to create a character that’s never been seen before.”
